Remembering Ritalin The DVD is now available for purchase at the Remembering Ritalin website (http://rememberingritalin.com).
Lawrence Diller, M.D., the author of Remembering Ritalin: A Physician and Generation Rx Reflect on Life and Psychiatric Drugs, interviews four of the young adults, now in their mid-twenties, featured in the book. Jennifer, Cannon (aka “Cameron”), Evan and Robbie (aka “Bobbie”) share their memories, struggles, triumphs and insights about growing up ADHD, their treatment with Ritalin and how they are doing now. Between interviews, Dr. Diller comments on the overall project, its findings and implications. He also gives specific advice to the parents of young children and teens, and adults themselves, considering an ADHD evaluation or treatment. The DVD closes with Diller’s “Uneasy Postscript” from Remembering Ritalin, which raises troubling questions about America’s use/overuse of prescription stimulants.
Remembering Ritalin (the DVD) makes an excellent companion to the book but also stands alone as an opportunity for parents (and their children) to learn from ex-ADHD child patients themselves about the ADHD experience and treatment. The DVD provides an excellent overview of the long-term outcomes of ADHD and Ritalin treatment. The DVD will be of great interest to professionals who evaluate and treat children and adults for ADHD and very useful as an instructional aid to families and health/mental health professional students in training.
